Bombardier Belfast specialises in the design and development of complex advanced composite and metallic aerostructures in all classes of civil aircraft and all categories of structure, including fuselages, wings and engine nacelles.
Our experience in the design, manufacture, certification and aftermarket support of advanced composite structures and components spans 55 years and our current composite manufacturing portfolio includes wings, horizontal stabilisers, engine nacelles, landing-gear doors, and flight control surfaces such as flaps, ailerons and elevators.
Our Experimental and Ground Test facility carries out development and certification testing of structures and systems. Structural work covers both composite and metallic materials and ranges from components to major assemblies.
Our approvals across design, manufacturing and maintenance include European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for design, production and maintenance; Transport Canada Civil Aviation Authority (TCCAA) for maintenance; as well as Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for foreign repair stations.

Half a century's experience
Bombardier Belfast has 55 years’ experience in the design, development, manufacture and support of aircraft engine nacelles. We produce major nacelle components for Bombardier and other aircraft. These include nose cowls, fan cowl doors, aprons and Engine Build Unit (EBU) systems for Rolls-Royce Deutschland BR710 engines, nose cowls for Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines, and nose cowls, fan cowl doors and EBU systems for International Aero Engines V2500 powerplant.
We are designing and manufacturing the complete engine nacelles, including thrust reversers, for the new Irkut MC-21 family of aircraft and will also provide aircraft certification and after-market support. In addition, we are developing and manufacturing for Airbus the thrust reverser for a new nacelle on the Pratt & Whitney-powered A320 aircraft family.
Our MRO operation provides services to operators of Bombardier, Airbus, Boeing, and Shorts aircraft. In addition to our base in Belfast, Europe, we also have a facility in Texas, North America and a Bombardier authorised component centre in Asia. We provide aircraft parts sales, component repairs, OEM engineering support, production of technical publications, and technical training for engineers and pilots.
In Belfast, our component repair business and engine nacelle manufacturing operation, which has around 55 years’ OEM expertise, are located together. Bombardier Belfast specialises in engine nacelle technology and innovation.
In addition to engine nacelle support, we also repair landing gear, flight control components, and electrical harnessing.

Bombardier Belfast has a European supply chain of around 900 approved suppliers. More than 800 are based in the UK and Ireland and in 2017, we contracted them work worth around £200 million.
We are committed to developing our supply chains to ensure they remain competitive and able to deliver increased value to customers. As a signatory to SC21 (ADS 21st Century Supply Chains), we work together with other members to harmonise how supply chains are developed and accredited, and how performance is measured and relationships improved. The programme provides Gold, Silver and Bronze industry level awards that are recognised as being the standard of excellence across the aerospace and defence industries, and are awarded to companies who have reached levels of excellence in service delivery and manufacturing quality. Beyond improvements to supply chain effectiveness and annual turnovers, award recipients in Northern Ireland have also benefitted from closer collaboration.
