Metro – Line 1 & 2, Shanghai, China

Shanghai's local transport system was launched with the Shanghai Metro Line 1, which operated 16 six-car units supplied by the German Shanghai Metro Group (GSMG) consortium led by Bombardier from October 1992 to April 1995.

In 1996, the Shanghai International Trading Company awarded GSMG a contract for the underground rail system, Shanghai Metro Line 2, with the operator of this metro system being Shanghai Metro Corporation (SMC). The contract included rolling stock, power supply, overhead system, telecommunication and SCADA.

Based on the successful Line 1 trains, the rolling stock supply consisted of 37 six-car units with spares and support (13 units are operating on Line 1 and 24 on Line 2). Delivery of these trains was completed in December 2001.
