INNOVIA Metro – Taipei, Taiwan

Bombardier Transportation designed and supplied the electrical and mechanical systems for the Neihu Line – an extension of the existing Taipei Metro Line 1. The system commenced passenger service in 2009. Bombardier also retrofitted the automatic train control system for the existing part of the line and upgraded the existing control centre.

Project summary:

  • The 14.8 km extended automated metro system connects 12 stations
  • 202 driverless INNOVIA vehicles operate as four-car trains
  • The system was designed for a peak-hour capacity of 28,400 passengers per hour per direction
  • The entire line, known as Wenhu Line, uses Bombardier’s CITYFLO 650 communications-based train control technology, which allows the original fleet and the new INNOVIA vehicles to operate interchangeably
