Following the successful demonstration and implementation of ERTMS Level 1 technology, ProRail awarded Bombardier Transportation a further contract to design, supply, install and commission an INTERFLO 450 ERTMS Level 2 dual signalling safety system for the Amsterdam - Utrecht track-doubling project, thereby upgrading the line.
The wayside system uses two complete Bev21 Systems to signal 26 km of track, including the stations at Steenwijk and Wolvega. The central equipment and interface to the upgraded train management system - VPT+ - is installed at the regional control centre in Zwolle.
The equipment to interface with trackside objects (point machines, signals, track circuits and axle counters) is located in 7 new equipment houses adjacent to the line. A protection and changeover system is commissioned, allowing the Bev21 system to be operated for testing and then restored for normal commercial train operations. The installation is designed to allow the maximum testing of functions required for the planned commercial applications.
