Bombardier’s ERTMS technology for the new Wuhan to Guangzhou Line is enabling higher speeds and capacity in China. China’s Ministry of Railways (MOR) is building a network of high-speed dedicated passenger lines. As part of this, the new Wuhan-Guangzhou line is the first to operate under the control of the latest rail control technology in China, a new standard (CTCS3) for very high-speed lines, to greatly increase line speed and capacity.
In 2007 Bombardier was awarded the contract to supply the BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 450 ERTMS Level 2 technology on the new line. Delivered in just over two years, the approximately 1000 km line went into service, as planned, in December 2009 with 60 services operating per day. With speeds of up to 350 kph, it is the highest speed ERTMS Level 2 technology to go into commercial operation, the world's longest very high-speed line, and the first ERTMS Level 2 communication-based Dedicated Passenger Line (DPL) system to be implemented in China.
The new system means that passengers are able to travel faster and in increased comfort between these two major cities. This is a vital step in further raising the standard and speed of intercity traffic in China.
