FLEXITY Swift – Frankfurt, Germany

Bombardier is responsible for the design and delivery of 224 FLEXITY Swift light rail vehicles for the Frankfurt transport authority (VGF). This vehicle type has already been successfully operating on the Frankfurt high-floor network since 2008.

The 25m long vehicles may be combined to form a 50-metre version which is walkable throughout its entire length. Consequently, the operator can respond flexibly to changing passenger volumes. The new vehicles have been constantly developed to further increase passenger comfort and flexibility so that travelling by public transport in the financial centre is also a pleasurable experience during peak hours. The modern FLEXITY Swift LRVs feature level entrances with eight/four wide double-doors per side which enable quick and barrier-free access, above all for passengers with impaired mobility.

Inside the vehicle multipurpose areas offer sufficient space for prams, wheelchairs and luggage. On hot summer days the air-conditioned interior ensures a pleasant journey. In order to prevent vandalism and increase security some of the new vehicles will be equipped with a video surveillance system.

VGF has already ordered 75 FLEXITY Classic low-floor trams, which have been in successful revenue service in Frankfurt since October 2003.
