Low-floor tram ­­Cobra - Zurich, Switzerland

The Zurich transport authority (VBZ) ordered 88 five-module trams of the “Cobra”-type. The future-oriented 100 % low-floor trams feature seven wide, identical double-doors which ensure a quick passenger flow. Automatic flap steps at all doors facilitate boarding and exiting especially for mobility impaired passengers. The fully air-conditioned and spacious interior of the Cobra-trams offers passengers high comfort and unobstructed view through the vehicle.

The environmentally-friendly trams excel in modern drive components, an especially quiet behavior in curves as well as reduced wear of the wheels and rails. The driver’s cab has been developed in cooperation with VBZ according to ergonomic criteria. Special attention has been paid to easy handling, panoramic view and optimal air-conditioning. The future-oriented crash concept as well as a vehicle front which has been developed according to latest security standards offer passengers, the driver and pedestrians protection in case of a collision.

The innovative vehicle design has been developed by the Italian designer Pininfarina. The Cobra-trams have been in operation in Zurich since 2001.
