Bombardier Transportation signed a contract with private rail operator, Paribus-DIF-Netz-West-Lokomotiven GmbH & Co. KG (Paribus-DIF) for the delivery of 15 TRAXX diesel multi-engine locomotives in 2014. The contract includes an option to purchase up to five additional locomotives. The new locomotives, which are designed for speeds of up to 160km/h, will be used for passenger services from Hamburg to Westerland/Sylt. The multi-engine configuration has the following key benefits:
- Four independently controlled engines maximise energy efficiency;
- Reduced fuel consumption compared with locomotives with equivalent power;
- Meets latest Stage IIIB emission standards for more eco-friendly operation while also emitting less noise;
- MITRAC traction converters ensure maximum reliability.
The locomotives will be manufactured at Bombardier's Kassel plant in Germany.
