Bombardier Boosts Innovation in Hennigsdorf through Advanced DRIVES Test Bench

Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation today inaugurated its new DRIVES test bench at the Hennigsdorf competence center in Germany. By investing in this highly sophisticated equipment, Bombardier continues to push boundaries to exceed customers’ expectations and deliver the most innovative, robust and reliable drive products.

Drives are the muscles of the vehicle and must be reliable under any conditions. The innovative equipment will put Bombardier’s drives to the test and ensure that they are able to withstand the worst scenarios such as extreme temperatures and exposure to snow, sand and salt. These tests will prove the efficiency and readiness of the drives to perform under such conditions once in operation.

The investment in the new drives test bench is an important development for the Hennigsdorf site and strengthens Bombardier’s profile as a leader in rail technology in the Berlin-Brandenburg region The Hennigsdorf team is part of worldwide DRIVES team consisting of more than 500 highly skilled and experienced professionals with in-depth knowledge across the value chain from design to delivery. Its expertise ensures that each rail car has the most suitable drive. The drives competence team consistently delivers excellent products that meet the highest quality standards and keeps the Berlin-Brandenburg region moving.

With its BOMBARDIER MITRAC drives portfolio geared to fit any requirement, Bombardier offers the perfect combination of traction motor and gearbox for any form of rail-based transportation, from streetcar or people mover all the way through to very high speed trains. The MITRAC portfolio includes a permanent magnet motor which improves the overall vehicle optimization and increases energy efficiency at reduced volume and weight.
