The Texas Motor Speedway today introduced Bombardier as the title sponsor of the speedway’s June IndyCar Series event, also known as ‘The Original Nighttime Indy Race’. The inaugural Bombardier 500 IndyCar Series event will be held June 7 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Details of the three-year sponsorship was unveiled by Andrew Farrant, general manager, marketing communications and sales support, Bombardier Aerospace, Business Aircraft, during Media Day activities today at Texas Motor Speedway. The event was attended by more than 150 media, industry officials and special guests.
This sponsorship is part of Bombardier’s five-year sponsorship agreement with the Indy Racing League (IRL) announced in early 2002. That agreement includes naming rights to the landmark Pagoda at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the IndyCar Series Bombardier Rookie of the Year Award and exclusive sponsorship of one IRL event each year. The Bombardier 500 will be that event for the next three race seasons, as announced by Texas Motor Speedway last October.
“We welcome Bombardier as a sponsor,” said Texas Motor Speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. “The event is not only one of the most exciting races in the IndyCar Series, it’s also one with the largest crowds of the season. Our fans know good racing when they see it and have continued to support IndyCar Series events year after year here at Texas.”
Bombardier is not new to the world of motorsports. In addition to the IRL agreement, Bombardier has sponsored Kelley Racing in the IndyCar Series since 1997. “We are very pleased to affirm our on-going commitment to motorsports with the Bombardier 500,” stated Mr. Farrant. “This new relationship between Bombardier and Texas Motor Speedway is a fantastic fit. It is yet another expression of our company’s passion for advanced technology, superior performance and innovation.”
Added Mr. Farrant: “Supporting Texas Motor Speedway is an obvious choice for us. The Fort Worth-Dallas metroplex has for many years been home to several Bombardier business units, including Bombardier’s Flexjet® fractional program; so this race represents a good opportunity for our company to contribute to a homegrown event.” Bombardier employs close to 12,000 specialists and technicians in the United States, of which nearly 3,000 reside in Texas.
