Hungarian National Railways (MÁV) Order Ten Bombardier Talent Trains Valued at 45 Million Euros

March 22, 2006 Montréal Transportation,  Press Release

The Hungarian National Railways (MÁV) have ordered ten Talent commuter trains from Bombardier Transportation. The four-car Bombardier Talent trains will be manufactured in consortium with Elin EBG Traction/Siemens and will be equipped with dual-voltage technology for 15kV AC and 25 kV AC. The order has a total estimated value of EUR 45 million ($54 million US). Bombardier’s share amounts to EUR 33 million ($40 million US). All trains are scheduled for delivery this year, starting with the first on 31 March 2006. Financial close is expected in the next few days.

The commuter trains will be built in the Bombardier plant at Aachen, Germany, with the bogies manufactured at Bombardier in Siegen, Germany. The electrical equipment will be supplied by Elin EBG Traction. The interior fitting and commissioning will be carried out at Bombardier’s and MÁV’s joint venture production site in Dunakeszi, Hungary, near Budapest.

“MÁV is an important customer in central Europe and we are delighted that our client recognized the advantages of the Talent,” said Stephane Rambaud-Measson, President, Mainline and Metros, Bombardier Transportation. “The fact that MÁV wants to make Bombardier’s internationally renowned Talent an important mainstay in its innovative transport plan is an indication of confidence in us.”

Talent trains, which are also in use in Germany, Canada, Norway and Austria, are notable for their streamlined elegance. Low-floor entry, generous passenger space and modern passenger information and emergency communication systems as well as air conditioning make travel more comfortable. The train also features disabled-friendly compartments and toilets, as well as generous storage areas for bicycles, prams and wheelchairs.
