Memberships and Professional Contributions

Our membership in, and professional contributions to, the following organizations help us assume leadership in areas of strategic importance and learn from the experiences of others.

International Union of Public Transport (UITP)

UITP is an association devoted to mass transport whose membership includes both operators and manufacturers. In 2003, we became the first vehicle manufacturer to sign the UITP Sustainability Charter.

  • UITP Sustainability Charter members commit to:
    • Fostering leadership on sustainable development through dialogue and exchange of best practices with all stakeholders.
    • Exerting influence on international and government policy to develop a responsible balance between social, environmental and business considerations.
    • Facilitating training and mentoring through activities and forums focused on sustainable development practices.
    • Adhering to a process of regular reporting on sustainable development practices.

Forum for Corporate Sustainable Management (CSM)

Following a tradition of collaboration with one of the worlds’ leading business schools, the Institute for Management Development (IMD), Bombardier Transportation is currently a member of IMD’s Forum for CSM. The Forum manages stakeholder dialogue, drives sustainability through leadership, and links it to business performance.

Conference Board

The North America-based Conference Board creates and disseminates knowledge aboutmanagement and the marketplace to help businesses strengthen their performance and better serve society. The Board operates via a number of councils. We participate in the European Council on Environment and Product Stewardship, and are particularly involved with eco-design and product declarations, environmental reporting and sustainability.

The Union of the European Railway Industries (UNIFE)

UNIFE represents the majority of rail vehicle, systems and components manufacturers on a European level. Bombardier leads the Environment and Transport working group for UNIFE, advising on European legislation and acting as a forum for exchanging knowledge and for cooperation with political organizations and customers’ environmental experts via close links to the operators’ organization International Union of Railways (UIC).

International Network for Environmental Management (INEM)

INEM is a non-profit federation for environmental management and sustainable development that aims to help companies improve their environmental and economic performance. In Germany, INEM is represented by B.A.U.M., the German Environmental Management Organization. We are an active member of B.A.U.M. and subscribe to the B.A.U.M. ethical code of practice.
