Community Engagement
Bombardier Transportation plays a vital role in helping create safe, vibrant communities where our employees and neighbours live and raise their families.
Within society and the communities where we operate, we contribute through activities such as partnering, philanthropy and volunteering. The Bombardier Donations and Sponsorships Policy guides our efforts, focusing on core sponsorships in 3 domains:
- Education
- Environment
- Entrepreneurship
Examples include:
- Since 2008, Bombardier Transportation made a long-term commitment to South Africa’s Gautrain Rapid Rail Link, a major rail infrastructure project in Gauteng Province. This commitment led to STARS, a private/public partnership focused on creating a network of education, training and innovation in sustainable transportation. The goal of STARS is to build a skilled workforce capable of delivering African solutions to African transportation challenges.
- In 2008, donations from Bombardier and its employees made it possible to establish an electrician class and electric workshop in Sichuan Chengdu Bainan Vocational School, as well as two temporary Relief Schools, in the earthquake-hit region of Sichaun, China.
- In 2009, Bombardier Transportations donations to the Prince’s Trust helped provide disadvantaged unemployed youth with training and workplace experience. In 2009, more than three out of four young people helped by the Trust, found employment.
