REGINA trains are in use in 2 and 3 section units in Sweden in a wide range of regional operators, whose capacity can, if required, be increased easily by additional trailer cars. Each car has two wide doors per side and spacious entry areas, meaning that effective passenger flow is also guaranteed, even when passengers have a lot of luggage. One car also has a low-floor entrance on a level with the standard platform height and an integrated wheelchair lift.
The REGINA multiple unit in its regional version was designed for use in the Swedish regional division and for characteristic journey times of 30 - 60 minutes and short stops at stations. REGINA trains are wider than the European standard , thus permitting a 3+2 arrangement of seats in 2nd Class. This increases the capacity over a normal width vehicle by around 20% and the vehicles also provide adequate seating, even during the rush hour. The comfort and design of the interior meets the highest demands of the Swedish passengers with regard to feelings of spaciousness and quality of the materials.
In the same way as the CONTESSA train, the REGINA train meets high environmental requirements. For example, it achieves, by regeneration of electrical energy during braking, approximately 25% lower energy consumption. The next generation of vehicles has been developed further in the context of the research project “Grona Taget” (Green Train), so that, in future, the REGINA trains will set the standard for environmental friendliness, comfortable travel and customer satisfaction.
