At the beginning of 2012 the Plauen Tram Authority PSB signed a frame contract for two trams with an option for eight additional vehicles. At the end of 2012 an option for another four vehicles was called off.
The unidirectional FLEXITY Classic vehicles can accommodate 119 passengers. They are 21 m long, 2.3 m wide and equipped with the reliable BOMBARDIER MITRAC propulsion system. Conventional wheel-set bogies ensure a smooth ride and reduce wear and tear of wheels and tracks.
The trams are made in Saxony for Saxony, produced at the Bombardier Bautzen site. The electrical equipment will be provided from its site in Mannheim, the bogies from its site in Siegen.
The PSB moves about 8 million passengers per year and ensures mobility for the people in the city. Plauen is a city with a strong tram tradition: the first tram line went into operation as early as 1894.
The PSB will be celebrating its 120th anniversary of local tram service in 2014 and by then half its fleet will be made up of brand new 100% low-floor trams of the FLEXITY type.
