The Leipzig transport authority (LVB) commissioned Bombardier Transportation in November 2003 with the delivery of 12 low-floor trams of the BOMBARDIER FLEXITY Classic series. In addition, 12 identically designed vehicles were ordered in September 2005 and an order for 9 trams was placed in January 2010.
Designed in the colours of the municipality, the vehicles are especially tailored to suit the requirements of the city of Leipzig. The vehicles offer comfortable entrance areas and a transparent interior with flat screens for travel information. In addition, the air-conditioned cars feature video cameras for improved safety. With a length of 45 metres the trams are ideally designed to accommodate a high passenger volume. Each of the new vehicles replaced three of the Tatra-trams which have been in operation in the city. The new FLEXITY Classic vehicles made a vital contribution to mobility at the 2006 Soccer World Cup in Leipzig.
