CITYFLO 450 - Bangkok, Thailand

The BTS Skytrain first opened in 1999 and comprises two lines, known collectively as the Green Lines. The Sukhumvit Line runs North to East and the Silom Line interconnects at Siam station and serves the central business district of Bangkok.

In 2007, Bombardier Transportation was awarded the contract to perform the re-signalling of the existing BTS Skytrain routes, without disruption to operations, for system operator, Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Co. Ltd (BTS). The BOMBARDIER CITYFLO 450 solution was chosen to equip the existing 24 km of line, comprised of the 17 km Sukhumvit Line and 7 km Silom Line.

Three new extensions are also now operating with Bombardier’s rail control technology. The complete installation finally totalled 36.75 km of elevated, double track, included 34 stations and involved equipping 52 trains of four different vehicle types. More than 600,000 residents and visitors can now travel on the BTS Skytrain transit network, benefiting from shorter journey times and a comfortable passenger experience.

In addition to these projects, the signalling interface for new passenger screen doors (PSDs) at nine of the network’s largest stations was completed in 2014. Also, 17 EMU trains have been equipped with the BOMBARDIER MITRAC propulsion and control equipment. In 2016, Bombardier began delivery of the full wayside Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) system integration for the latest BTS Green Line Extensions, which will add a further 30.7 km of line to the network.
