The Stockholm Public Transport Authority (Storstockholms Lokaltrafik - SL) ordered 384 new MOVIA C30 metro cars in 2013 as part of their investment in more sustainable transport for the growing city of Stockholm, in particular for the Red Line upgrade. The new fleet will be fully prepared for automated operation at GoA 4 level, which SL plans to introduce.
Compared to the previous generation, also designed by Bombardier, the new metros feature additional bi-parting doors for faster entry and exit and a mixed, four-by-four seating configuration with additional seats along the vehicle’s sides to optimize comfort, capacity and passenger flow while meeting the highest environmental standards. Much attention has been given to the RAM (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability) and LCC (Life Cycle Cost) performance of the new trains, which was the awarding criteria for Bombardier Transportation.
