Building on over 20 years’ experience in Australian regional passenger transport, the VLocity 160 diesel multiple unit (DMU) provides a flexible vehicle solution through the use of technology that has been tried and tested in local conditions. Based on the service proven Xplorer / Endeavour DMUs designed and manufactured at Bombardier Transportation’s Dandenong facility, the multiple unit set comprises two permanently coupled cars, with weatherproof inter-car connections, which can be readily coupled to form a train of up to eight cars.
The vehicles are designed to operate at a maximum speed of 160 kph. The exterior of the train is styled to make a statement of dependability and elegance complemented by corporate livery, which blends into the low maintenance stainless steel exterior finish. Proven components and systems ensure high reliability, coupled with diagnostic systems designed to minimise downtime during maintenance. Using a modular approach to both body and interior construction, everything from the propulsion systems through to seating and luggage facilities have the flexibility to be economically tailored to meet the demands of individual routes.
These factors combine to give a very high rate of availability and thus ensure a highly efficient train service.
Emerging passenger trends, fire safety, performance requirements and other relevant standards have been considered in every aspect of the vehicle’s design, manufacture, maintenance and operation. The feature rich VLocity 160 is the answer to Australia’s regional transport future.
