Bombardier Transportation signed a contract with Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) for the delivery of 46 six-car units (Series H) to operate on Berlin's large profile network. Two pre-series units were completed and the delivery of the first series of 24 units then followed. Delivery of the second series of 20 units was completed on time by the middle of 2002 with the delivery of the last train to BVG. Bombardier is responsible for the entire train.
With electronically operated doors and wide passageways, these aluminium vehicles are designed for optimal passenger flow and high transport capacity.
The 6-car units operate in a fixed configuration and can transport up to 750 people. A light and airy design contributes to the comfortable and secure passenger environment. A water cooled propulsion system with GTO-technology provides the required 2 MW of power per unit. The train communication and control system coordinates all vehicle functions and provides the driver with a detailed train status and diagnostic display
