IORE - Sweden, Norway

The IORE locomotive is designed for heavy haul freight trains and is one of the most powerful electric locomotives in the world. Two of these single cab locomotives are always used as married pair, although each unit is individually fully functional. They are in service in an extreme climatic environment where iron ore trains of 8200 t are hauled from mines in the inland to the coasts of Sweden and Norway. With an axle load of 30 t and a starting tractive effort of 1200 kN the IORE is the core product for heavy haul locos within Bombardier Transportation. Extensive LCC requirements from the customer have resulted in very favourable maintenance costs and excellent reliability.
