lNNOVIA Metro 300 – Vancouver, Canada

Bombardier Transportation is delivering 28 INNOVIA Metro 300 vehicles to increase capacity on the Vancouver Sky Train network. Bombardier was the turnkey supplier of the original fully automated metro system for the City of Vancouver in December 1985. When it first opened, the SkyTrain system (known now as Expo Line) was 21.4 km long and connected 15 stations.

Later, Bombardier also supplied the 20 km turnkey Millennium Line system, which entered service in 2002. The Vancouver SkyTrain network currently carries more than 80 million passengers per year and is the longest driverless metro system in North America.

Project summary:

  • A fleet of 258 driverless INNOVIA vehicles operate as two- to six-car trains
  • 28 new driverless INNOVIA Metro 300 vehicles are on order and will be fully delivered in 2015
  • The additional INNOVIA Metro 300 trains will meet increasing passenger demand on the existing lines and support the operation of the new Evergreen Line
  • The Expo Line features the SkyBridge – a 616 m transit-only suspension bridge that crosses the Fraser River
  • Bombardier supplied and integrated of all the electrical and mechanical elements for both turnkey systems and each subsequent additional vehicle order
