The Schwerin transport authority (Nahverkehr Schwerin GmbH) ordered a total of 30 low-floor trams, from the BOMBARDIER FLEXITY Classic family, which are in operation since August 2001. The steel body design of the vehicles has already been successfully implemented with trams for Kassel, Essen and Krakau. Further advantages of this vehicle concept are a high running stability and reduced wear of wheel which are generated by the use of conventional motor bogies.
Passengers especially appreciate the generous lay-out: The new trams are 2.65 m wide, which permits comfortable two by two seating and an aisle-width of over 600 mm. The modern passenger information system is supported by flatscreens which send latest travel information as well as advertisements.
In the low-floor area three double doors allow quick and effortless boarding, additional single doors are built in at each end of the vehicle. Self-levelling, hydro-pneumatic suspension provides a constant access height under all operational conditions
