Single-deck Coaches - Germany

With Veolia Verkehr GmbH's order for the delivery of 90 low-floor passenger coaches for deployment on the Marschbahn line between Hamburg and Westerland (Sylt), the low-floor, single-deck passenger coach is enjoying a renaissance in Germany on modern regional and commuter services.

Comfort, reliability, flexibility and operational economy are key features of this passenger coach concept. The vehicle concept has resulted in both stepless entry at 760 mm high platforms and stepless walkthrough gangways throughout the entire train. The basic train ordered by Veolia Verkehr GmbH consists of four functionally different vehicle types: the driving car, the intermediate supply car, the supplementary intermediate car and the end car.

These semi-permanently coupled coaches are approved for speeds of up to 160 km/h and can be combined to form units consisting of 4 to 10 coaches. The driving trailer and end coach are equipped with a draw hook and side buffers in the standard version, with a central buffer coupling available as an option and the use of a train bus (WTB).

The new vehicle concept benefits from the use of tested and proven components, such as Bombardier double-deck coaches. Air-conditioned passenger areas, comfortable seats and reading lamps are standard, as are the spacious, multipurpose vestibule areas for passengers with bicycles, children's prams and wheelchair passengers. The interior design of the individual coaches can be modified to meet the specific needs of both the operator and the passenger.

The Veolia coaches are also equipped with toilets designed for disabled passengers, a 1st class compartment and a train attendant's compartment, plus a passenger information and audio system. The wide range of options available includes the installation of beverage and ticket vending machines or a bistro area.
