Award-Winning Design - Shaping a City’s Identity
Bombardier’s FLEXITY trams are renowned both for quality and design, a fact that is proven by several design awards.
Art Nouveau expressionism in Brussels, maritime appeal in Marseille, Bauhaus design in Berlin and sleek elegance for Linz: Bombardier has produced award-winning tram designs with customised appeal for some of Europe’s leading cities. These defining designs – each a successful symbiosis of form and function – have made them hugely popular with passengers.
Bombardier offers transport authorities virtually unlimited scope in customizing the exterior design of the FLEXITY tram. The exterior colour scheme and the shape of many components, including the driver’s cab, windscreen, headlights and covers, can all be tailored to an operator’s particular preferences. With strong visual impact, FLEXITY trams have the potential to transform the urban light rail experience.
A virtually unlimited range of colours, materials and seat-cover fabrics makes unique interior designs possible, as do individual lighting concepts or stanchion arrangements.
For Zurich's extensive tram system Bombardier delivered 88 future-oriented Cobra trams that feature 100 % low-floor technology, giving easy access to the vehicle and ensuring a quick passenger flow.
The fast-developing London Docklands area is served by the first fully automated system in England, operating 94 Bombardier-built light-rail vehicles, with a new generation of 55 vehicles that commenced service in 2008. The system played a key role in transporting passengers to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The driverless cars have proved enormously popular and reliable, with their enhanced design and passenger comfort.
Bombardier developed for the Wiener Linien (Austria) a low-floor vehicle which is especially suited for the historic network of Vienna's U6 line. A total of 124 vehicles with level entrances and step-less interior have replaced the old high-floor fleet. 20 additional vehicles were ordered in December 2011.
