Light Rail Transit System - Porto, Portugal

Located in the City of Porto, Portugal, the new system connects nine municipalities in the metropolitan area and interconnects with the city's existing bus and railway lines. The first phase of the system has four lines, totalling 60 km, and features 60 at-grade and 12 underground stations.

Based on proven technology already in service in France and Italy, seventy-two 100 per cent low-floor articulated BOMBARDIER FLEXITY Outlook vehicles, provide a total capacity of 20,300 passengers per hour per direction. To augment the existing fleet, Bombardier Transportation, as part of a consortium that includes Vossloh-Kiepe, will supply 30 FLEXITY Swift low-floor vehicles, to be delivered in 2008 and 2009.

Financing for the project was raised through a number of sources including a European Investment Bank, the Portuguese Government, the European Union and private financial markets.
