FLEXITY Classic - Essen, Germany
The Essen Transport Authority (EVAG) has ordered 27 BOMBARDIER* FLEXITY* Classic trams from Bombardier Transportation. The proven trams have been customized to meet the requirements of the city of Essen and fulfill current norms and standards.
The three-module, bi-directional vehicles are 30 m long and 2.3 m wide and equipped with the innovative BOMBARDIER MITRAC propulsion system. Tram interior and driver’s cab include a modern HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system). The tram accommodates at least 170 passengers. The proven combination of 70% low-fl oor technology with conventional wheel-set bogies is characterized by ensuring a smooth ride and high passenger comfort, low noise emissions as well as wear and tear of tracks and wheels as well as a long operating life.
The first two pre-series vehicles will be delivered in August 2013 already. The first series production trams will arrive in Essen in March 2014. To date a total of more than 550 FLEXITY Classic trams have been ordered or in successful revenue service worldwide, for example in the cities of Dortmund, Dresden, Frankfurt, Halle, Kassel and Krakow.
