Toronto Rocket Subway Train - Toronto, Canada
Bombardier is supplying next-generation subway trains (known as the “Toronto Rocket”) to the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), the third largest public transit system in North America. The new vehicles will replace older cars and allow for expansion of service. The 70 new Toronto Rocket six-car trainsets (420 cars) will operate on the Yonge-University-Spadina Subway of the TTC network.
These vehicles will provide a range of new features, including several suggested by passengers. Some of the benefits are: open gangways allowing riders to walk freely from one end of the train to the other; increased passenger capacity; an electronic information system including automated audio station announcements and an “active” route map that will show direction of travel, tell riders which station is next, and identify on which side of the train the doors will open at the station; an improved ventilation and air conditioning system with increased cooling capacity; and increased energy efficiency and service reliability.
