TRAXX MS Multi-system Locomotives
The TRAXX MS locomotive is specifically designed for cross-border services. It operates between Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, and between Germany and Poland, while other locomotives cross the borders between Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. The TRAXX MS has been ordered predominantly by leasing companies, notably Angel Trains, CB Rail and MRCE. However, SBB Cargo also utilizes it for cross-border traffic between Switzerland and Italy. The train protection systems use the technology and core components of the ETCS, a European signalling system.
The locomotive is based on the proven platform concept of the TRAXX locomotive family, meaning it has a high degree of commonality with the multi-system TRAXX AC, the TRAXX DC and the TRAXX DE locomotives. It is a four-axle, multi-system 5600 kW locomotive able to operate on standard gauge railway lines electrified with 15 kV 16.7 Hz, 25 kV 50 Hz, 3 kV DC and 1,5 kV DC. It has been homologated for freight transportation at a maximum speed of 140 km/h.
