TRAXX AC F140 - Germany
Deutsche Bahn AG (DB) placed an order with Bombardier Transportation in 1998 for 400 Class 185 electric locomotives. Their track record with DB has been excellent and they are regarded as powerful, extremely dependable and infrastructure-friendly.
Class 185 locomotives were designed as modular multisystem units incorporating three-phase asynchronous propulsion technology for fast cross-border freight services and are preconfigured for Europe's future ETCS/ ERTMS train control and safety system. Class 185 locomotives are a further development of the successful Class 145.
The maximum power output delivered by the locomotive, which is equipped with 2-axle Flexifloat bogies, is 5 600 kW. It has a starting traction effort of 300 kN and a top speed of 140 km/h (200 km/h is available as an option).
Class 185 units are designed to operate on standard gauge 15 kV or 25 kV AC networks. A new 4-system version is being developed, which will additionally be capable of operating on 1.5 kV and 3 kV DC systems.
