Thanks to the extensive experience gained in developing and producing running gear for rail vehicles for more than 160 years BOMBARDIERFLEXX bogies are world-renowned for their quality, innovation and performance. More than 200,000 FLEXX bogies are successfully operating worldwide.
The FLEXX bogie portfolio focuses on designs with most valuable benefits for the operator: safety, reliability & robustness.
The FLEXX bogie portfolio is the most comprehensive bogie portfolio in the world. It covers the entire range of railway vehicles:
Trams – FLEXX Urban bogies
Metros – FLEXX Metro bogies
Locomotives – FLEXX Power bogies
Diesel and electric multiple units (conventional and tilting) – FLEXX Compact, FLEXX Link, FLEXX Eco, FLEXX Speed bogies
This outstanding portfolio will be strengthened further by the ongoing innovative power of Bombardier’s 200 specialist bogie development and design engineers.
Leaders in Innovation and Design
With a first-class record for reliability and safety, we provide the highest quality bogie solutions for Bombardier and third-party vehicles, on all railway infrastructures, worldwide. Our innovative and technologically advanced designs include the state-of-the-art FLEXX Tronic platform – including its latest development the FLEXX Tronic WAKO system.
Bombardier is setting up a Bogie Technical Center at its site in Siegen. The investment of approximatly 10 million euros confirms Bombardier’s leading position in providing bogie technology and its commitment to deliver the best solutions for its global base of customers. Bombardier’s Bogie Technical Center is due to open in 2014 and will work in close cooperation with the academic world and other Bombardier manufacturing sites, but also with customers, suppliers and certification institutes.
The new facility will combine a test and validation centre with an engineering unit hub. It will attract international bogie engineering specialists to continue to develop the BOMBARDIER FLEXX bogie portfolio to better fulfill customer requirements, in particular in terms of stricter certification and homologation processes.
We combine the industry’s most comprehensive bogie portfolio with the Bombardier Integrated System of Procedures, our robust project management criteria. This allows us to cost-effectively meet our customers’ diverse operational needs, as well as the highest specification standards.
To maximize reliability and availability levels, we also conduct bogie overhauls, repairs and upgrades. Our expertise and services enable our customers to maximize profits and efficiency while minimizing maintenance costs.

The bogie − the vital area where wheels meet rails − is widely considered the single, most crucial component of a train. As the market leader, Bombardier manufactures over 5,000 FLEXX bogies per year.
More than 20,000 FLEXX Metro Bogies are currently in service in over 20 countries worldwide. FLEXX Metro bogies are extremely reliable, robust and straightforward in their design. FLEXX Metro light weight bogie concepts enable maximum vehicle capacity utilization with minimum energy consumption.
Commuter and regional trains link the cities with the suburbs and the countryside. Because easy access to trains is essential, low floors have become an integral design feature. High reliability, low noise and minimum vibrations are important criteria for the choice of bogie. If minimum travel time or energy consumption is a priority, tilting technology might be the solution for route with curves.
FLEXX Compact: optimum comfort and easy boarding are a priority for regional applications
FLEXX Load: high axles loads for high capacity transportation.
Intercity and high speed trains have by definition to be designed for long travel times. The FLEXX bogies reflect this basic requirement by comprising a high comfort suspension system for superior riding qualities. Due to the high running performance of the trains, maintenance and energy have a great impact on the total life cost. This is taken into consideration by bogie design parameters such as minimum weight and wear as well as specific features, e.g., condition monitoring.
The operational needs of this segment are covered by different FLEXX bogies families :
FLEXX Fit (MD-522, MD-523, MD-524, MD-530): bogies for various speed and axle loads specifically designed for trailer coaches
FLEXX Eco: lowest unsprung mass for minimum track and wheel damage
FLEXX Link: superior ride quality and running stability for long distance trains
FLEXX Speed: comfort and safety at very high speeds
Our team of experts offer a complete range of services throughout the whole bogie lifetime: Crash repair, Overhaul, Customer services, Spare part logistics, FLEXX Rent (Rent a bogie), FLEXX Track (Track Condition Monitoring).
