Bombardier's Maneja Site Completes 15 Years of Commercial Production and Supply in India
- Inaugurated in 1997, Maneja site offers a broad range of propulsion and control equipment
Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation announced today that Maneja site in Vadodara, India, has completed 15 years of continuous commercial production and supply in India. This site supplies a comprehensive portfolio of propulsion and control equipment, all manufactured locally, to rail operators in India.
Since 1997, the Maneja site has been supplying converters and high-end electronic equipment for train control and communication to rail operators in India. It also houses a software development centre for signalling and traction applications that supports Bombardier globally with application and product development.
“The site has grown exponentially from manufacturing two products in 1997 to now providing a wide-ranging portfolio of propulsion and control equipment,” said Harsh Dhingra, Chief Country Representative, Bombardier Transportation India. “Maneja site generates employment for 300 people directly and this feat is achieved due to the relentless effort of our employees. The site is well suited to meet the requirements of Indian Railways and metro rail operators, with its strong engineering, manufacturing capability and a portfolio of world-class products.”
Maneja site has also been involved in delivering BOMBARDIER MOVIA metro cars with BOMBARDIER MITRAC propulsion system, which helps to create up to 30 per cent in energy savings through regenerative braking for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
A groundbreaking order from Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), a joint venture between State of Maharashtra and Indian Railways, is currently being executed at the site. The project involves design, manufacturing, delivery and commissioning of MITRAC propulsion and control equipment, as well as additional equipment including fans, compressors, passenger information systems and high voltage equipment for use in Electric Multiple units manufactured by Indian Railways. The order relates to 72 commuter trains of 12 cars each. Deliveries of the equipment will start in the last quarter of 2012 with completion of deliveries in the third quarter of 2014.
The Maneja site supports Indian Railways and its vehicle divisions with after sales repair and overhauling services with supply of spare parts for maintenance. Bombardier also supports local communities close to the site, with programmes for schools and orphanages. Most notably, in the last couple of years it has provided access to drinking water, planted trees and funded education for underprivileged children at the nearby Muni Seva Ashram.
Bombardier’s MITRAC portfolio is a complete family of propulsion and control products for metros, locomotives as well as commuter, regional, intercity and high speed trains. It powers some of the world’s most reliable fleets, offering a smooth start, rapid acceleration, constant speed and low noise levels for an altogether comfortable rail journey. The MITRAC portfolio enhances the competitiveness of public transportation through its energy efficient, lightweight and compact designs. Some 40,000 MITRAC IGBT propulsion converters are in use around the world. Their modular design allows for flexibility in adapting systems to individual customers’ requirements. In addition, the modules are easily accessible for maintenance and repair.
