Wolfgang Tölsner (born 1948) holds a diploma in electrical engineering (Dipl. Ing) from the technical university of Hanover, Germany. He has 35 years of international operational experience in the industrial plant construction business. His experience is in the fields of electrical energy generation and distribution, electrical shipping and offshore equipment, rail transport equipment, railway vehicle manufacturing and railway facility systems.
During his career, he has held numerous leading management positions at companies such as BBC, ABB, ABB Henschel, ADtranz (Daimler Chrysler), DWA and Bombardier.
From 2001 to 2004, he served as President of Bombardier’s Global Locomotives and Freight Division.
Between 2004 and 2009, he was COO and deputy CEO of Bombardier Transportation (EUR 8 billion turnover, 31,500 employees)
Since 2009, Wolfgang Tölsner has been working as an independent management consultant. He is also a member of the supervisory boards of Bochumer Verein Verkehrstechnik GmbH and Munich-based Knorr-Bremse AG, as well as a senior advisor at Oliver Wyman Management Consultants and EQT.
He is a member of the advisory board of the VDEI association of German railway engineers (Verband Deutscher Eisenbahn-Ingenieure e.V.) and a member of the scientific committee of the German association for electromobility (Bundesverband eMobilität e.V.)
Wolfgang Tölsner is married and has two children. He lives in Uetersen in the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein.
