Mtre Daniel Desjardins is the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Bombardier Inc. and is a member of the Management Committee of the Corporation. He joined Bombardier Inc. in April 1998. As General Counsel, Mtre Desjardins manages a legal department of 175 lawyers in 17 countries. Bombardier is the world’s only manufacturer of both planes and trains. With a workforce of 76,400 employees, 79 production and engineering sites in 27 countries and a worldwide network of service centres, Bombardier posted US $18.2 billion in revenues for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2013.
As Corporate Secretary of Bombardier Inc., Mtre Desjardins is responsible for the corporate governance matters.
Mtre Desjardins is the Chairman of Bombardier’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee and has the corporate responsibility for environmental and health and safety matters. The latest CSR Report was published in May 2013.
Mtre Desjardins also has the responsibility of all of the insurance and risk management programs at Bombardier and he is the Chairman of DBB Insurance, the wholly owned captive of Bombardier managing all insurance matters for the Corporation.
Mtre Desjardins received the “Lifetime Achievement” honor at the 2013 Canadian General Counsel Awards in June 2013. In August, 2011, he was recognized by Canadian Lawyer as one of the “Top 25 Most Influential” in the justice system and legal profession in Canada. In April, 2010 in Montreal, he was also presented with the 2010 Robert V.A. Jones Award by the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association. In June, 2007 in New York, Mtre Desjardins was presented with the General Counsel of the Year Award by the International Law Office, Global Counsel Awards and the Association of Corporate Counsel. He is the author of articles and has presented at many conferences on various topics including in-house practice.
Mtre Desjardins obtained his Law Degree (LL.L) in 1977 from University of Montreal and his Master’s Degree (LL.M) in 1983 from McGill University.
