Lutz Bertling is President and Chief Operating Officer of Bombardier Transportation. He joined Bombardier in June 2013.
Mr. Bertling studied Mechanical Engineering at TU Braunschweig. Upon completion of his studies in 1988, he joined the academic staff at the Institut für Werkzeugmaschinen und Fertigungstechnik (IWF) at TU Braunschweig, becoming Head of Production Systems at IWF. He remained at IWF until he received his doctorate in 1993.
Prior to joining Bombardier he accumulated a wealth of experience working for global aerospace and transportation businesses. Between 1993 and 1999, he held positions of increasing responsibility at Adtranz and DaimlerChrysler Rail Systems GmbH, today part of Bombardier Transportation, finally as Vice President System Development and Production Unit Carbody.
In 1999, Mr. Bertling joined EADS’ Military Aircraft Business Unit as Vice President Augsburg Plant and Aerostructure Programs. He moved to Eurocopter Group in September 2003 as Executive Vice President Governmental Helicopters.
In April 2006, Mr. Bertling became Chief Executive Officer of Eurocopter Deutschland. In October of the same year, he took on the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of Eurocopter Group. During this time, he oversaw a doubling of turnover, an over-proportional growth of the services businesses and a major wave of innovation.
Mr. Bertling is a Chevalier of the French Legion d'Honneur, honorary professor of the Tongji University Shanghai and a fellow of the Royal British Aeronautical Society. Being a private pilot, he is passionate about flying helicopters.
