John Paul Macdonald has worked for 30 years in communications, public affairs, investor relations and human resources.
He initially held various public affairs positions in the Canadian Forces including principal spokesman for the Department of National Defence in Ottawa, Deputy Chief of Public Information for Canadian Forces Europe and Director of Public Affairs for the Canadian Forces in Québec.
Mr. Macdonald joined the private sector in 1992 with Paramax Systems Canada, a Unisys Corporation subsidiary. He joined the media conglomerate Quebecor in 1996 as head of corporate communications and investor relations.
In late 1999, Mr. Macdonald assumed the post of Vice President, Corporate Affairs at the Molson beer company. In 2002, he joined Bombardier Aerospace as Vice President Communications and, in January 2005, was named Senior Vice President, Public Affairs for Bombardier Inc. In February 2008, Mr. Macdonald assumed the additional responsibility of Senior Vice President, Human Resources. He is presently leading the corporation’s talent management strategy.
Over the years, Mr. Macdonald has developed a particular expertise in financial communications, crisis communications and conflict resolution in situations as varied as share offerings, mergers and acquisitions, aircraft crashes, a murder trial and strike actions.
A native Montrealer, he holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University and studied communications strategy at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
