Pierre Alary is a chartered accountant and a business administration graduate from l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM).
Starting in 1978, Mr. Alary spent 20 years at Ernst & Young. During his last 10 years there, Pierre was a senior partner in charge of audit and consulting services for major manufacturing and high-tech companies. He was also involved in the biotechnology industry and became a major player in the development of the Ernst & Young biotech practice in Québec. He co-founded the Québec Biotechnology Association, later renamed BIOQuébec.
Mr. Alary joined Bombardier in 1998 as Vice President, Finance for Bombardier Transportation, the rail transportation sector of the business. This position eventually took him to Berlin, where he oversaw the financial facet of the acquisition and integration of Adtranz, which Bombardier purchased from Daimler-Chrysler in 2001. As a member of the Management and Executive Committees, Pierre was in charge of Finance for the Transportation group worldwide.
In November 2002, Mr. Alary was promoted to Vice President, Finance for Bombardier Inc., and in February 2003, he was named Senior Vice President and Interim Chief Financial Officer. In February 2009, he also took responsibility for the Treasury Department.
Since June 2003, he has held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Bombardier Inc., with responsibility for all lines of the business. Pierre played a key role in the major restructuring and recapitalization projects that contributed to restoring Bombardier’s earnings power. His strong leadership skills enabled him to maintain his team’s focus in the midst of significant management changes, as well as secure the new management team’s full collaboration and buy-in.
Married with three daughters, Mr. Alary lives in Montréal. He is a member of the Ordre des Comptables Agréés du Québec. He is Chairman of the Board of the Fondation du Théâtre du Nouveau Monde (TNM), and chairs its Audit Committee. He is also on the Board of the Fondation de l’UQAM as well as a member of its Audit Committee.
In January 2009, Pierre obtained the Chartered Director (C.Dir.) designation from The Directors College, a joint venture of McMaster University and The Conference Board of Canada. In February 2011, he also earned the prestigious Fellow (FCA) award from the Ordre des Comptables Agréés du Québec.
