Bombardier FLEXITY Swift - Rotterdam, Netherlands

In June 2005 the Transport Authority of Rotterdam (RET) awarded a contract to Bombardier for the design and build of 21 Bombardier FLEXITY Swift vehicles. The bi-directional vehicles are part of the RandstadRail project that will link the cities of Rotterdam, The Hague and Zoetermeer. RET will operate the Rotterdam-The Hague section on which the FLEXITY vehicles will run.

The new three-module light rail vehicles have a total length of 42 m with a passenger capacity of 270. Passengers benefit from excellent ventilation and air-conditioning systems, extremely low noise levels, comfortable seats, a modern information system as well as an attractive and spacious design. Video surveillance inside the vehicle will increase passenger safety. The seven double-sliding plug doors at each side of the vehicle and the entrance at platform level allow for a quick exchange of passengers.

The vehicles are based on the proven concept of the 81 metros and sneltrams ordered by RET from Bombardier between 1996 and 2000 and have been adapted according to the latest European standards in terms of crashworthiness, fire protection etc. The new vehicles are scheduled to be delivered between January and November 2008.
