Corporate Responsibility Commitment and Roadmap

At Bombardier, we believe that a strong commitment and a strategic approach to corporate responsibility are essential for managing the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing global environment.

To that end, we are proud to introduce our Corporate Responsibility Roadmap, and to share our strategy for managing our business in a sustainable manner. The purpose of this document is to discuss how we are formalizing our approach to sustainable management, to advance Bombardier's economic viability, environmental stewardship and social accountability.

Among the announced initiatives in our roadmap is Bombardier's decision to become a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, a voluntary initiative that promotes business leadership in support of the Global Compact's ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment and anti-corruption.

J. Armand Bombardier Foundation

The Corporation fulfills its social and humanitarian responsibilities primarily through the J. Armand Bombardier Foundation, a non-profit organization which receives funding equivalent to 3% of the Corporation's income before income taxes. Created in 1965 by the Bombardier family to honor the founder's wishes, it continues the tradition of support to charitable causes that he established. Each year, in addition to funding education in the form of student bursaries and donations to colleges and universities, the Foundation supports several charity and relief organizations as well as missionary works.

The Foundation is headquartered in Valcourt, Québec, and since its inception, has always been quite active in supporting local community projects. The Foundation attaches prime importance to its cultural role and, in this respect, it created the J. Armand Bombardier Museum as well as the Yvonne L. Bombardier Cultural Centre.

Students receive leading-edge training in the advanced computer laboratory of the École de Technologie Supérieure de l'Université du Québec, which was established with financial support from the J. Armand Bombardier Foundation.

J. Armand Bombardier Museum

The J. Armand Bombardier Museum is a unique cultural institution. In fact, it is the only private science and technology museum in Québec focused on the life and work of the renowned inventor Joseph-Armand Bombardier, and the history of the snowmobile. Through its impressive collection, the Museum fosters research and conservation and by various means, it seeks to maintain awareness of the important contribution of the snowmobile to our cultural and industrial heritage. The Museum's permanent exhibits are an eloquent testimonial to man's never-ending struggle with winter in the northern regions of the globe.

Yvonne L. Bombardier Cultural Centre

Named after the inventor's wife, the cultural centre's mission aims to encourage the community's social and cultural development. The centre houses a library, which offers many documentary and multimedia services; an art gallery, primarily dedicated to highlight regional artists; and cultural workshop programming, which encourages the local population to develop its artistic talents and interests in various cultural hobbies.
